Caregivers Skills Training (CST) Program

For Families of Children with
Neurodevelopmental Disorders and Delays

What is the CST Program?

  • Developed by an international team (including the World Health Organization (WHO) and Autism Speaks) and used in over 30 different countries
  • For caregivers of children aged between 2 to 7 years suspected or diagnosed with neurodevelopmental conditions like autism
  • Includes 3 visits with each caregiver and 9 group sessions with other caregivers
  • Aims to help caregivers work with their children to improve their skills

What do the sessions involve?

  • Caregivers will learn to use playtime, routines, and home activities as opportunities for children to learn and develop skills
  • Sessions focus on topics such as communication, engagement and daily living skills
  • During individual visits: the caregiver and their child meet with a facilitator to set individualized goals, practice strategies and receive coaching
  • During group sessions, 8 to 10 caregivers come together to work on the new skills they are using with their children
  • During research visits: the caregiver and their child meet with a research coordinator and they are also invited to complete some questionnaires
  • All visits and sessions can be completed virtually
  • Sessions are videorecorded
